Security and Public Library Computers
From PC Magazine (2.09)
Q: I use public computers at places such as the university I attend and the public library. Is it safe to use these computers for things such as online banking? Will I be able to hide my tracks so people can't see the sites I visited? A: In a word, no, It's not safe to use public computers for anything sensitive such as online banking. In fact, it's not even wise to use a public computer for anything that requires a username or password. Data thieves have been known to install keyloggers (malware that records keystrokes in order to steal passwords and the like) on public machines. Although you can delete your browsing history by pressing CTRL-H in most browsers and deleting any or all entries, you can't completely erase your tracks. This would thwart a casual snooper, but a pro could still find out what sites you visited. Unless you're using your own computer on a secure wired or wirless network, you should generally avoid visiting any sites that require you to log in.
